J.P. Morrison is a seasoned drummer with over four decades of experience in the music industry. Known for his versatility, dynamic playing style, and drive, J.P. has collaborated with a wide range of artists across various genres. His passion for music began at a young age, and he has since honed his craft to become a sought-after musician. Whether in the studio or on stage, J.P.’s performances are marked by precision, creativity, and an undeniable energy that captivates audiences.
About JP Morrison
JP Morrison has been on stage before he could walk. Raised in a very musical family, JP hit the stage early on at his grandparents’ Country Music or Opry Style show known as the East Texas Jamboree or Johnny Morrison’s Haybarn in Shepherd, Texas, where some of the biggest names in Country music performed. JP’s dad (Kent Morrison) went on to play guitar for Barbara Mandrell, Randy Travis, Mark Chesnutt, and many others, giving JP the ability to follow along and learn from some of the very best musicians/drummers the music industry has to offer.
This inside track or in-house apprenticeship did not stop there. A.V. Mittelstedt, owner and operator of Soundmasters Recording Studio in Houston, Texas, got word of JP’s potential and took JP under his wing. This opportunity helped JP develop his drumming skills at a very early age and had him playing professionally, live, and in the studio, by the age of 14. Due to this special relationship, JP found himself doing recording sessions and playing on the albums of some very well-known artists at a very early age.
At 18, JP toured with CMA Instrumentalist Of The Year, Fiddlin’ Frenchie Burke. Over the years, JP has played for and worked with such artists as Jo-El Sonnier, Doug Supernaw, Freddie Pate, Wayne Toups, Randy Cornor, Roy Head, Mundo Earwood, Kelly Schoppa, Jim Collins, Johnny Bush, Freddy Fender, Kenny Dale, Tommy Shane Steiner, The Sound, Darrell McCall, Dierks Bentley, Clint Black, Brian Black, Steve Palousek, Rodney Pyeatt, Darren Kolbe, Branded, and more.
Some of J.P.”s early drumming influences and/or mentors include Larrie Londin, Jeff Porcaro, Vinnie Colaiuta, Paul Leim, Randy Reeves, Omar Hakim, Mike Baird, Lonnie Wilson, Eddie Bayers, Tommy Wells, Alan Kerr, John Hammond, Anton Fig, Carlos Vega, Rick Marotta, and Kenny Aronoff just to name a few.
